For weeks, Focus on the Family Action has been alerting
concerned citizens about President Obama's health care
reform plan, and its failure to specifically exclude
abortion coverage and funding. On September 9th, the
president addressed Congress and the nation in an attempt to
bolster a plan that has come under increasing criticism from
concerned citizens during Congress' recent August recess.
President Obama made it clear in his address to Congress and
the nation that the concerns of millions of pro-life
Americans – that his health care reform plan will require
abortion coverage and funding – are nothing more than a
"partisan spectacle" and "bogus claims spread by those whose
only agenda is to kill reform at any cost." In fact, a
non-partisan organization from the University of
Pennsylvania has confirmed that unless abortion is
specifically excluded from the reform plan, Americans will
be forced to pay for abortions. (See the
full report from FactCheck.org.)
Focus Action’s “Phone-a-Thon” To Oppose Abortion in Health Care
Reform: September 14-18
In light of President Obama's full-court press to pass a health
care plan that will require abortion coverage and funding, Focus
on the Family Action is calling on our friends to join a
one-week “Phone-a-Thon” to Congress and the White House.
Beginning Monday, September 14 through Friday, September 18, we
are asking pro-family citizens to call the White House and your
members of Congress to express your opposition any health care
reform plan that does not specifically exclude abortion coverage
and funding, as well as provide conscience protections for
health care professionals who do not want to participate in
abortions.
Complete the form below to register for the “Phone-a-Thon” or
record that you have made your calls. You will receive an e-mail
reminder from Focus Action with talking points and quick access
to your legislators' phone numbers.
Here are a few talking points to help you express your concerns about the current health care reform plan.
- I urge you to specifically exclude abortion and include conscience protections for health care workers in any health care reform plan.
- I strongly oppose abortion coverage or taxpayer funding of abortion in any health care reform plan.
- As a taxpayer, it is a violation of my freedom of conscience to be forced to fund or support government-mandated abortion coverage. In addition, health care professionals must not be forced to perform abortions.
